Frequently Asked Questions

How is the camp programme developed?
Who are the Camp Instructors?

By Singaporeans!

More specifically, it is jointly developed by two Singaporeans—products of the robust Singapore Maths curriculum and system. Samantha who is currently an undergraduate in the top UK university is also a Maths tutor specialising in training primary school students for Maths Olympiad. Jasmine who is undertaking her doctoral studies at the same university, is also a mother of two primary school aged children, and thus passionate about imparting practical Maths skills to her kids. The curriculum is developed in consultation with highly qualified Maths teachers in Singapore in order to accurately reflect the ethos and methodology that undergirds the Singapore Maths approach.

University students and graduates, who are trained in Singapore Maths.

All our camp instructors are DBS-checked, trained, experienced, enthusiastic.

One thing common among them all is their passion both with working with children and imparting their love for Maths.

Does my child need to be good at Maths to attend?

Absolutely not!

It is for self-proclaimed Maths geniuses and Maths-haters alike. You do not need to love Maths to love our Camps! In fact, the participants probably do not even know they are learning Maths at the camps.

We have had a range of participants with different interest-levels. The most rewarding times are when those who have sworn off Maths now think they can actually have fun with Maths!

How do we cater to the differing level of ability and age in a camp setting?

Besides the Camp Manager who runs the official programme, we have at least one camp instructor for every 8 children. These instructors move around the groups to help explain things to anyone who is struggling with understanding.

We also run age and ability differentiated programmes while also ensuring sufficient opportunities for everyone to mix across all ages.

Our Story: Why SG MATHS

Founder & Curriculum Design, Jasmine F.

Maths Coach and Camp Manager, Devi B.

A lawyer by profession, Jasmine spent most of her years of education in Singapore, where she experienced the extremes of struggling with Maths to acing all the exams. She is convinced that almost anyone can be a Maths "expert", given the right approach, if they put their minds to it.

She has thus been passionately making Maths fun, accessible and relevant to everyday lives for her two primary school aged children, while completing her doctoral thesis. That is the main driving force for starting SG Math. The analytical and problem solving skills that a good foundation in Maths provides will go a long way in preparing every child for life. Her desire is thus to provide a platform where children can enjoy their vacation time strengthening their Math foundations while having loads of fun!

Devi is an engineer by profession but put a pause to her career in order to coach her three boys in preparation for their 11+. The sacrifice paid off with all of them securing spots in top grammar and private schools in SW London. Putting into use her learning skills she acquired during her earlier education in Singapore had given her an edge over preparing her own children for the challenges of today's education system.

She is thus keen to now equip other students with adequate skills and understanding in order to navigate and excel in the London school system.

Besides running our camps, Devi also offers one-to-one coaching in (Singapore) Maths during the term-time.

Maths Camp Facilitator, Gilda O.

Like Jasmine, Gilda initially found Maths really challenging. But she appreciated how it therefore continually challenges and stimulates her, until she conquered it with her As.

Being a nurturing person by nature, Gilda is now reading Literature and History in a top UK university, but continues her interest in teaching Maths through tutoring and running Maths camps. She also has prior experience running Sports camps. All of these experiences allow her the opportunity to put the critical thinking and problem-solving skills she learnt in Singapore Maths into great use. She firmly believes that her Maths ability have helped her in other academic areas and in real life!
